Calif. hospital recognized for healthy-eating campaign

Palomar Health recently received a certificate of recognition for its commitment to educate patients about eating healthy, the Times of San Diego reports.

The hospital received the certificate from San Diego County Supervisor Dave Robert for its numerous nutrition education efforts, including its Healthier Hospitals Initiative—which aims to improve the health of patients and staff by offering healthy, locally sourced foods and beverages—and its Meatless Mondays program, which teaches patients how to make better dietary choices.

“When we buy local and regional fresh food and provide these options on the table or the patient’s tray, it’s not only a better nutritional value, but it tastes better, too,” Jim Metzger, director of hospitality services at Palomar Health, told the Times.
