Cafeteria manager accused of fudging numbers for funding

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A school district employee is accused of fudging the numbers to get more green for her staff.

A district spokesman told CBS12 investigators a weakness allowed this to happen.

"They were inflating the numbers so that they could keep a full contingency of school staff working in the cafeteria," said district spokesman Dean Dimkee.

The district said the cafeteria manager at Carver Middle School cooked the books and the number of students participating in the school's breakfast program to get her hands on more than $23,000 in extra federal funding.

The district said Juliene Garcia padded the numbers but not for her gain.

Your tax dollars have since been returned to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
