Ariz. district caters to student athletes with ‘peak performance packs’

In an effort to provide student athletes with nutritional food options for their preferred sport, Chandler Unified School District has rolled out ‘peak performance packs,’ reports The New York Times.

Students at the Chandler, Ariz., high school can choose from three food box options—endurance, muscle building and rapid recovery—that can be purchased in the cafeteria for $5.

The endurance pack—aimed at those who compete in cross country, track and wrestling—includes whole-grain pasta salad, produce, string cheese and a drink high in electrolytes, according to the Times. Likewise, the muscle-building pack contains foods high in lean protein to encourage muscle repair and strength.
