We held a zero-waste night event at a recent basketball game. The goal was to bring environmental awareness to the arena while diverting 90% of waste from landfills to recycling bins and composters. Students manned zero-waste stations composed of bins for trash, recycling and composting to educate attendees and help sort trash, and dining services worked with the concessions, athletics and facilities teams to plan the event and ensure it ran smoothly. We collected 954.8 pounds of compostable trash, and at 86% we came close to our goal.
