As we look back at the past year, Food Management readers have made a big impact on the onsite food service space. Compass Group, Aramark and Sodexo continued their dominance in contract management companies; school lunch ladies have been fired for giving away free school meals to students; and robots entered college dining with Starships’ fleet of 30 food delivery bots on the campus of Northern Arizona University (with other college campuses following suit later in the year).

When it comes to school nutrition stories that resonated with Food Management readers in 2019, those included FM’s first-ever best K-12 school meals competition and five menu items to inspire breakfast in the classroom.

As always, trend stories were big hits with the onsite industry, including insights into college dining programs and food trend predictions for 2020.

These are the 20 stories Food Management readers found to be the most compelling in 2019.
