Kellogg NuCrew is a program designed to help schools transition from traditional food-based planning to nutrient standard menu planning. Four schools have received $2,000 grants so far: Eastbrook Community Schools (IN), Fruitport Community Schools (MI), Hudson Area Schools (MI), and Oroville Union High School (CA). In addition to the grant, grant recipients also receive $100 off the license fee for NUTRIKIDS software and a training session. Kellogg has extended the program through February 2009. $5,000 to the Greenest Project

The Hobart Center for Foodservice Sustainability is now accepting submissions for the best-executed foodservice or food retail sustainability project of the year. Last year, Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, won with a farm collaboration. The prize is a $5,000 grant, and the recipient will be announced at the 2008 Greenbuild Expo in Boston this November. To enter, visit www.hcfsforum.com.

$5,000 to Get Greener

One school will win a cash prize to go towards helping the environment in SCA Tissue's “Green Our $chool” random sweepstakes. Just fill out a short form at www.greenourschoolprogram.com between now and Nov. 30. The prize money can be used for environmental initiatives like installing energy-efficient appliances, planting trees on school grounds, or improving recycling systems.
