J & J Snack Foods Corp. has announced that its frozen carbonated beverage distribution company, The Icee Co., has acquired the Slush Puppie branded business from Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. Slush Puppie frozen non-carbonated beverages are sold through an existing established distributor network to over 20,000 locations in the United States and Canada as well as to certain international markets. Sales were approximately $18 million in 2005. "We are delighted with the addition of the Slush Puppie brand to our niche beverage portfolio," says J&J President/CEO Gerald Shreiber. "The addition of Slush Puppie combined with our Icee frozen carbonated brand gives us two of the leading brands for frozen beverages in the United States. We plan on continuing to use Slush Puppie’s existing distribution system, which includes 85 independent distributors," he adds.
