County implements grant program to tackle school food waste

Schools in Eau Claire County in Wisconsin can receive up to $1,000 in grant funding to help them operate their own food waste program.

New York awards over $850K in farm-to-school grants

The money will be distributed to 10 farm-to-school programs in the state.

The state is one of the latest chosen by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to participate in the direct-certification program.

Also in this week’s K-12 legislative update: Louisiana’s governor signs a reduced-price meals bill into law, and a new bill in New Jersey would phase in universal free meals over a period of five years.

K-12 operators have come up with a variety of dishes to serve during the warmer months.

Starting July 1, all public school students in the state will be offered free breakfast and lunch.

Also in this week’s K-12 legislative update: A federal bill would expand access to the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program, and several bills advance at the state level.
