SNA’s Annual National Conference, Denver

Association’s 66th meeting focuses on meeting new meal regulations.

In July more than 6,3000 child nutrition professionals gathered in Denver for the School Nutrition Association’s conference, Exploring New Horizons. The conference featured more than 90 educational sessions, three general sessions, an exhibit hall with 850 booths and a closing concert by the Beach Boys. Fitness expert Denise Austin opened up the conference. 

Attendees could attend one of the 90 educational sessions, which focused on topics such as allergies, salad bars, food safety and marketing. 

Kern Halls, of the Orange County School District in Florida, gives a presentation on understanding the needs of your customers. 

During the second general session, the White House’s Sam Kass and Phil Lampert, the Supermarket Guru, welcome three of the four contestants from the show “Chopped.” One episode of the series focused on school meals. 

Current SNA president Helen Phillips, of the Norfolk Public Schools in Virginia, hands off duties to incoming president Manatee County’s Sandra Ford.

The Beach Boys capped off the conference.
