Serving snacks during the school day offers a way to boost a la carte sales and keep students’ hunger at bay between meals. Since the 2014-15 school year, snacks served in K-12 schools must be compliant with Smart Snacks standards, meaning they can have no more than 200 calories and no more than 200 milligrams of sodium, among other guidelines.
