College renames food stations after its chefs

The move aims to connect students with those who prepare their meals. To add an element of personalization, food stations inside the dining halls are being renamed after the chefs who work there.

Students at the University of Maryland can scan codes on dining menus to leave feedback.

Dining hall traffic on Mondays had reportedly dropped 15% with the meat-free menu. The change comes from the residence hall association, which unanimously voted to add meat back into the Monday menu.

The on-campus eatery will serve up classic diner fare, including hamburgers, patty melts and milkshakes.

Vanderbilt created a high school “focus group” to see what future college students will want in terms of foodservice. They called up two now-seniors from the last group to get 10 of their friends together.

The switch to meals on demand is intended to boost food quality while reducing waste.

Employees are prepared to strike if an agreement isn’t reached by Oct. 10. The workers are requesting a minimum annual income of $35,000 for full-time work.

Tempeh and falafel are being offered at eateries around campus. The new items were introduced in response to students’ requests for more vegetarian and vegan dishes.

Union members will vote this week on whether or not to strike next month. The employees are asking for a $35,000 wage as well as affordable health benefits.
