Kera Wooten named dining director at Ashby Ponds

Fourteen-year veteran had been restaurant manager at this continuing care retirement community.

Kera Wooten has been promoted to director of dining services at Ashby Ponds, a retirement community in Ashburn, Va., managed by Erickson Living. Wooten had been restaurant manager at the complex.

She will oversee a staff of 130 foodservice employees. Ashby Ponds operates a waitservice restaurant called Blue Sky and a casual café called The Robin’s Nest and offers catering services to residents.

Wooten has worked for Erickson for 14 years, beginning as a service manager at Greenspring in Springfield, Va. Prior to that she worked for Marriott International in its Senior Living services division.

Hutchinson Middle School in Hutchinson, Minn., invited students to help serve lunch in an effort to encourage their peers to try new, healthy recipes, Hutchinson Leader reports.

The students, who are part of the school’s Students in Action Club, created posters to advertise the new meal and helped serve it to students during lunch.

The school’s kitchen manager, Janet Schmidt, said that around 37 more students than normal got in line to try the meal. The school plans to have students from the club help serve lunch once every month.
