Plans for HFM, ASHFSA Merger Move Forward

The vote followed a conference call where Deanne Carlisle, ASHFSA president and chief of nutrition and food services, at Portland VA
Medical Center, in Portland, Ore., and Bruce Thomas, HFM president and
associate vice president-guest services, Geisinger Health System in
Danville, Pa., spoke to members concerning the history, rationale and
plans for the new organization.

"The leadership and membership of both ASHFSA and HFM are very excited
about the formation of this new organization and are energized by the
enhanced, unprecedented and unparalleled opportunities it will provide
for our industry," Kris Schroeder, appointed president of AHF and
administrative director support services for the Swedish Medical Center
in Seattle, said in a press release. "AHF will provide self-operating
healthcare food and nutrition professionals with the industry's
absolute best practices, tools and resources."
