Flatbread with Wisconsin Aged Cheddar and Maple Bacon

this flatbread w ould make a great appetizer or small plate. It features bacon, maple syrup, apple and cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

4 oz. bacon, chopped
1⁄4 cup pure maple syrup
1 6-in. flatbread
1⁄2 Granny Smith apple, cored, sliced into 1⁄8-in. thick rounds
1 cup aged cheddar cheese, shredded, divided
3 scallions, sliced

Methods/Steps

1. Place bacon in sauté pan over medium to high heat; cook about 4 mins., until fat is rendered. Drain fat and discard.

2. Add maple syrup to bacon and cook 5 mins. Pour maple bacon onto parchment paper and separate pieces. Set aside to cool.

3. Place pizza stone in cold oven. Preheat oven to 400°F. Meanwhile, sprinkle ¾ cup cheddar cheese over flatbread. Place apple rounds over cheese. Top with maple bacon and remaining cheddar.

4. Place flatbread on hot pizza stone and bake 12 to 15 mins. until edges are deep golden brown and cheese is melted. Remove from oven and cut into 8 pieces. Top with sliced scallions.
