Telera rolls have the classic shape essential for an authentic Cuban sandwich or torta. Par-baked and fully baked rolls are available in this format.

Ingredients

1 telera sandwich roll
1 1/2 tbsp. yellow mustard
2 oz. sliced ham
4 oz. roasted pulled pork
2 slices Swiss cheese
1 med. dill pickle, sliced lengthwise into 4 slices
Softened butter

Steps

  1. Slice telera roll lengthwise in half. Spread 3/4 tbsp. mustard on each half.
  2. Layer ham evenly over mustard on bottom half. Top with pulled pork. Layer cheese slices evenly over pork.
  3. Arrange pickle slices over cheese. Place top half of roll on sandwich and press down lightly to compress filling.
  4. Lightly butter outer sides (top and bottom) of roll; place sandwich in heated panini press. Grill until cheese has melted (or desired color and doneness is achieved).

The Orange County Community College Association, which oversees the school’s cafeterias, says the layoffs were partly due to a $150,000 deficit accumulated by foodservice operations last year.

Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, is eliminating paper cups in its Commons dining hall and has given each student a reusable stainless steel mug as a replacement, bates.edu reports.

The mugs were distributed via a promotion earlier this week where students could fill their new mugs with a free smoothie. Stickers and other trinkets were set out for students to use to “bling” their mugs.

Dining services turned to students to determine which type of mug would be offered. The college also installed a mug-washing sink in the dining Commons earlier this year.
