Coffee-Grilled Ribeyes

Ribeye steaks are dry-rubbed with a thyme, red pepper and ground coffee mixture and allowed to rest for one hour before grilling. Served with a side of coffee infused barbecue sauce.


2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cracked black pepper
1 tsp. dried thyme leaves
1 tsp. crushed red pepper
1 tsp. ground coffee
4 rib steaks (12 oz. each)
1 cup strong brewed coffee
1⁄2 cup brown sugar
1⁄2 cup soy sauce
2 oz. rum
1 tbsp. cider vinegar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce


1. Combine salt, pepper, thyme, red pepper, and ground coffee; rub into steaks. Let stand 1 hr.

2. Meanwhile, combine brewed coffee and remaining ingredients in saucepan; simmer until reduced to 1 cup and slightly thickened.

3. Grill steaks 5 min. per side, or to desired doneness. Serve with coffee sauce.

The University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., will soon switch over from magnetic strip-based student ID cards to chip-based ones, The Observer reports.

Along with being more secure, the new cards will allow students easier access to dining halls, enabling them to simply tap their cards on a reader to gain entrance. Students will also be able to add flex points and Domer Dollars—which can be used at eateries on and off campus—to their accounts via a mobile app.

The new cards are expected to be available by the time school begins next fall.
