Windham Hospital delivers meals to elderly, disabled patients

Meal delivery program emphasis is on providing healthy meals.

June 29—During some of the most challenging weather the state of Connecticut has seen, including Tropical Storm Irene and last year’s October snowstorm, Rosenstein and his fellow Meals to the Home drivers at Windham Hospital didn’t miss a single delivery.

“The people we deliver to count on us,” Stanley Rosenstein, delivery worker, said. “Sometimes we’re the only people they see. We try and say hello and see how they are doing.”

Meals to the Home is in its 15th year at Windham Hospital and delivers two meals a day to the almost 90 people on the program, including elderly, disabled and newly discharged patients. Serving much of the hospital’s service area, from Lebanon to Ashford and over to Bolton, Rosenstein and two other drivers deliver one hot meal and one cold meal each day. On Fridays, the delivery is six meals to get the clients through the weekend.
