Whole Kids Foundation donates salad bars to Wis. schools

Foundation is charitable arm of Whole Foods Market.

March 13—Madison, Wis., schools are not giving up on bringing fresh vegetables to the lunch table.

Though it sounds simple — just give the kids some carrots!— adding a significant number of fresh vegetables and fruit to a school-provided lunch is anything but. From the bureaucracy surrounding food buying to tight budget constraints and schools’ own outdated facilities, most of Madison’s schools are ill-equipped to provide the nutrition parents demand.

Earlier this week, schools made a new step toward a healthier lunch hour. The Whole Kids Foundation, a charitable arm of Whole Foods, donated 15 salad bars to Madison area elementary schools.
