Va. hospitals price food based on nutritional value

Healthy food will cost less than unhealthy choices.

April 29—Lynchburg, Va.-based Centra officials plan to give people an incentive to choose healthy food when they eat in the health care system’s cafeterias.

Prices will be based on nutritional value and healthy foods will cost less than unhealthy foods.

Color labels based on calories, fat, cholesterol and sodium content will help diners identify which foods are healthy. Foods that should be eaten frequently will have green labels. Foods to be eaten in moderation will have yellow labels. Red labels will identify foods that should only be eaten occasionally.
