McMinn County High School has added a hydroponic garden to its on-campus greenhouse, which may eventually be used to supply produce for student lunches, reports The Daily Post-Athenian.
Four students at the Athens, Tenn., school who are members of its Future Farmers of America Greenhouse built the garden and are currently growing lettuce to test the soil-free growing method’s efficiency.
“It's hard to find a big farm to start off and grow,” student Dillion Givens told the website. “You can take this hydroponic system and build it up in a greenhouse and produce all year round.”
