Student idea decreases high school’s food waste

In order to decrease food waste in the cafeteria, a North Carolina high school student came up with an idea to save unopened food, NBC Charlotte reports.

Instead of throwing away leftovers, students at Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte can now place unopened items into a cooler located in the middle of the cafeteria. Students who are still hungry after lunch can then grab an extra item from the cooler.

Food that is not eaten by the end of the school day is taken to the library across the street as a snack for students and other visitors who come to the library after school hours.
