Sodexo pulls out of Columbus City Schools contract

Oct. 10—Sodexo will pull out of its contract with Columbus City Schools on Dec. 21, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Sodexo’s contract with the state’s largest district began in the 2009-2010 school year and contained a provision for Sodexo to opt out. Sodexo’s contract with the district was for $13 million a year. According to the paper, the school district will take over the foodservice department.

While Sodexo officials did not tell The Columbus Dispatch why it was pulling out of its contract, the paper suggests it was because the food management company was not able to turn the struggling program around financially.

When putting together our surveys, FoodService Director’s editors tend to ask operators about big trends that we’re seeing throughout the industry. For the November "Besties" issue , we asked readers to share the best ways they’re menuing things like plant-based dishes, trending international cuisines and creative DIY options.

Great responses flooded in from across the country, and it was tough to narrow down which would make it into the cover story. A few even came in after the piece was finished. Laura Thompson, resident district manager for Aramark at James Madison University,...
