A study has found that federally funded school lunches can expose children to a toxic chemical, according to Stanford News.
Bisphenol A, also known as BPA, is found in plastic packaging and canned goods and has been linked to health effects from reproductive issues to cancer, according to the study recently published in the Journal of Exposure Science and Environmental Epidemiology.
The study, led by Jennifer Hartle—a researcher at the Stanford Prevention Research Center—says the increase in packaging is a result of school’s efforts to meet the national standards, keep costs low and make food preparation efficient.
