Penn. school teams up with local restaurant for new menu options

Christopher’s Restaurant in Wayne's lunch options has become a hit for students, even with a price increase.

Nov. 18—Forget cafeteria ladies slapping some mushy white stuff on to your lunch tray. The Radnor Township School District is partnering with a local restaurant to serve up some serious sandwiches.

It started out with Chef Christopher Todd of Christopher’s Restaurant in Wayne, coming to elementary schools to teach them about healthy eating.

Now, the district’s Michael Petitti says the effort has moved to the Middle and High schools lunchroom.

Students at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor will be served student-grown produce from the campus farm at dining halls this fall, M Live reports.

The dining team received its first batch of produce from UM’s on-campus farm in June, after students received the proper USDA certification to grow, harvest and deliver food to campus dining halls. In order to figure out what produce is needed, students communicate with the dining department weekly, and Michigan Dining purchases items accordingly.
