Penn. districts participate in USDA’s Harvest Hub program

With more parents and students showing interest in locally sourced foods, York County School District in Pennsylvania is teaming up with the USDA to get its constituents out to the farms.

The core of the program is getting locally sourced foods into the schools on a weekly basis.

But the USDA’s farm-to-school Harvest Hub program also encourages students to help in harvesting the produce and learn more about how it was grown, reports ABC27.com.

“I’m really enjoying it. It’s a new experience and it’s something a lot more kids need to experience,” Mary Secord, a freshman at Northern High School, told ABC27.
