PB&J ban ignites policy discussion online

Parents upset with policy take to Facebook.

Sept. 17—After a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was confiscated from a child at an Arkansas school due to possible peanut allergies from other students, a Facebook page was created to talk about where policy conflicts with common sense involving food allergies.

Citing a story from Shine via AreaWideNews on September 13, parents and school officials in Viola are trying to find common ground over a no-nut-policy at one Arkansas school.

Sources said when a student brought their peanut butter and jelly sandwich to school for lunch, a teacher allegedly confiscated it. The student was given assistance to find other options the school served and was handed a note to take home explaining the peanut butter and jelly ban on sandwiches, over fears of food allergies from nuts.
