Oregon Plans Farm-To-School Expansion

Legislature passes bill to add $500,000 to existing program.

July 2 — The Oregon state legislature has massed a measure that would add $500,000 to the state's Farm-to-School program. The bill now goes to Gov. John Kitzhaber for his signature.

The money would be used to fund grants that help connect schools with local farmers. But the allocation would fall far short of the $5 million some local farming advocates had been pushing for.
