Okla. district uses ‘blender bikes’ to promote healthy lifestyles

Soon, high school students in Tulsa Public Schools will use bikes for more than just exercise—they’ll also use them to power smoothie bar blenders.

The district will fund the blenders, which are powered by pedaling, through a $50,000 grant from the Healthy School District Incentive Grant program, a part of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust—which aims to promote healthy lifestyles, reports tulsaworld.com.

“We know that kids who are physically active and healthy perform better academically, so all of these things are going to advance the school, the city of Tulsa and the state of Oklahoma,” said Tracey Strader, executive of the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust.
