N.Y. parents allege breakfast program robs kids of education

Parents at PS 343, the Peck School, want to have a breakfast-in-the-classroom program dropped, alleging it takes away from instructional time, reports The New York Post.

Although the free breakfast program should only take 15 minutes, according to the state’s department of education, parents and teachers say it’s taking 30 minutes—which adds up to 2 ½ hours per week—with more time eaten by distributing the food and cleaning up afterwards, says The Post.

The parents want the DOE to let the school revert back to the hot breakfasts served in the cafeteria before the breakfast program was implemented.
