New Jersey students create new app for ordering lunch

EzCafe allows students to order lunch from the cafeteria on Apple devices running iOS version 6.1 or later.

Oct. 24—Ordering lunch from the cafeteria just got easier for time-strapped Millburn High School, in New Jersey, students thanks to an app created by Andrew Kiselik and Adam ElShaer.

Andrew and Adam, students at the high school, developed Millburn High School EzCafe, an app that can be downloaded from the Apple Store and used on personal Apple devices running iOS version 6.1 or later. The app can also be accessed on a public iPad at the cafeteria's food service kiosk.

The students showed board and community members how the app worked at the Oct. 14 Millburn Board of Education meeting. They explained the idea for a paper order form was generated in the Student Liason Committee, in which high school students discuss school issues with board members and administrators. The app was developed with the idea of creating less waste in mind. Its creators had to overcome issues with connecting the data entered in the program to the cloud so Aramark staff in the cafeteria could process the orders.
