Woodrow Wilson Middle School has suspended its award incentive lunch card program, which gives students who excel a pass to the front of the line, The Tampa Tribune reports.
Principal Colleen Faucet sent a letter to all students’ parents Monday night stating that the program—which had been in place at the school for 20 years—would be suspended once Woodrow’s students return from winter break and would be under review thereafter, according to the Tribune.
“During the coming months, my administrative team will reassess current procedures and conduct student interviews in an effort to determine ways to improve our system,” Faucet wrote in the letter.
The school’s decision to suspend the program comes after parents and students started an online petition, which collected nearly 900 signatures, calling for the school to let students eat on a “first come, first-serve” basis, as reported recently by FoodService Director.
