Mich. director takes nutrition fight to USDA

Director concenred with nutrition information supplied to schools from manufacturers.

April 27—Julie Harsh, food service director at Saline (Mich.) School District has taken her mission to improve communication between schools and manfacturers concerning nutrition information right to the top, the U.S. Department of Agriculature in Washington, D.C.

Harsh met with Janey Thornton, deputy undersecretary of food, nutrition and consumer services for USDA to discuss the new school lunch regulations and how food service employees are unable to get the nutrition information they need in a timely, standardized format.
