Massachusetts university becomes food-recovery certified

In America, 40 percent of food goes to waste. Now, Framingham State University is doing its part to cut waste and help the hungry.

On Monday, the university announced it is now Food Recovery Certified, a status that means it will work to reduce waste. Instead of throwing extra food away, the school will donate it to people in need.

According to a release from Sodexo, the school’s dining services provider, “healthy and nutritious surplus food” like soup, baked goods and prepared meals will be delivered to Pathways Family Shelter and Pearl Street Shelter in Framingham.
