Mass. city council approves $7M warehouse for district’s foodservice

In an effort to save money and consolidate its food programs, Massachusetts-based Springfield Public Schools will move its foodservice to a larger, closer building, reports masslive.com.

The city council Monday approved the $7 million purchase of the 62,000-square-foot warehouse, which will be used for packaging to support Breakfast in the Classroom, dinner, summer and catering programs, as well as food production.

City officials say the new warehouse will save the district more than $380,000 annually in lease, storage and shipping costs, according to the website.
