Kids learn to sort for new recycling program

Program brings in parents to help direct waste.

May 9—Started at the urging of the Ridgefield Green Village Initiative, a recycling program at Ridgefield School District in Conn., brought parents into the school to act as recycling monitors, guiding the students from bin to bin and teaching them what to toss where.

The Ridgefield Green Village Initiative is slowly introducing recycling into the town's school system. Reasoning it would be easier to teach the youngest students first, it started recycling programs at Farmingville and Scotland elementary schools. Other elementary schools are expected to be added.
