Iowa State Senate approves healthy cafeteria bill

Measure would set dietary standards for public cafeterias.

March 26—The Iowa State Senate has passed a bill that would require foodservice operations in public institutions such as universities and government office buildings to follow American Heart Association guidelines for their menus. The bill will have to be approved by the House before it can become law.

According to a report by KWQC News, the law would mandate operators to post calorie counts and sodium and saturated fat levels on menus, and meet guidelines limiting calories for snack foods, entrees and meals.
