Indiana foodservice worker repays district $37,750

Julie A. Schroeder, a former foodservice manager at Valparaiso High School, didn't deposit, record or report cash receipts from April 2011 to October 2013.

VALPARAISO, Ind.—Whether a former Valparaiso Community Schools food service manager will face criminal charges for theft is likely up to the school district.

In a report released Thursday by the Indiana State Board of Accounts, Julie A. Schroeder, the former food service office manager at Valparaiso High School, has repaid the district the $37,750 she took from the district by not depositing, recording or reporting cash receipts taken in by the department from April 2011 to October 2013.

An earlier audit by the state agency found the discrepancies in the Child Nutrition Cluster Program and forced the district to change its accounting procedures for the federally funded lunch program.
