Food Network alum teaches kids to make art out of waste

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — Students at the Gulf Coast Culinary Arts Department got a special treat Wednesday, which could possibly change the way they think about the food they prepare.

Food Network's Gold Medal Winner Ray Duey held a seminar on how to do vegetable and fruit sculpting.

The demonstration was an added part of the regular culinary program.

Duey travels the country showing how to turn fruit and vegetable scraps that would normally be thrown out, into floral and animal masterpieces at no cost to the client.

After the demonstration, Duey let students create a centerpiece of their own. Not all the birds were identical, but it did give them a chance to learn some creative tricks.
