Florida districts report success with contract foodservice

Choice comes down to cost savings and expertise.

Feb. 25—Several Florida school districts, such as those in Duval, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties, have privatized their food service, and all three districts report success with the transition.

Paul Soares, chief officer of operations support for Duval schools, said they’ve had privatized food service for about 25 years; their service is provided by a partnership between Chartwells and Thompson, with Chartwells being the predominant part of the partnership.
