Farm at Dickinson College receives Food Alliance certification

Nov. 21—The 50-acre farm at Dickinson College, in Carlisle, Pa., has been certified by the Food Alliance, a nonprofit organization that addresses safe and fair working conditions, humane treatment of animals and careful stewardship of ecosystems.

The farm, which also is USDA Certified Organic, supports biodiversity, promotes sustainable land management practices and grows healthy food for the campus community. The farm’s Food Alliance Certified fruits and vegetables are available through campus dining services, the Campus Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and at Farmers on the Square, a local farmers’ market.

The certification process includes an on-site inspection to show compliance with strict standards, such as a minimal use of pesticides, soil and water conservation practices, and biodiversity and wildlife habitat protection.
