The National Wildlife Federation and the Illinois Food Scrap Coalition (IFSC) recently recognized Elmhurst College for sustainability efforts on two of its campuses.
The National Wildlife Federation, a nonprofit education and advocacy organization, recently designated the college’s gardens as a Certified Wildlife Habitat, a designation reserved for gardens that help wildlife thrive by providing ample food, water, shelter and a place to raise their young, according to a release.
IFSC, an organization dedicated to advancing food-scrap composting in Illinois, also designated the college as a Gold Partner in We Compost—a program run by the coalition that recognizes institutions demonstrating the highest level of commitment to food-scrap diversion.
Elmhurst, which began its composting efforts in 2012, has collected and composted more than 21,000 pounds of food scraps this academic year.
