Compass Group USA to lay off St. Louis Chartwells employees

After losing a foodservice contract with St. Louis Public Schools, Chartwells laid off 217 employees last year.

ST. LOUIS—A North Carolina food service company plans to lay off 267 employees in the St. Louis area, as it closes Chartwells Dining Services in the city of St. Louis and downsizes in St. Louis County.

Chartwells, which  last year laid off 217 employees after losing a food service contract with St. Louis Public Schools, is closing, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the state of Missouri.

The move affects 215 employees, and will be completed by May 23, according to the WARN notice. Chartwells is a division of Compass Group USA, a $12 billion company based in Charlotte, N.C.
