College dining hall extends hours due to athlete complaints

The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs is extending breakfast hours at one of its dining halls due to complaints from student athletes, reports The Scribe, UCCS’ campus newspaper.

The Lodge will stay open an extra 30 minutes in the morning in order for athletes to have enough time to eat breakfast after morning practice.

Mark Hayes, the school’s director of dining and hospitality services, found out about the issue through the student newspaper.

“When this came up, I figured the best course of action would be to talk to some coaches,” said Hayes, who discovered that some practices ended at 8:45 a.m., just 15 minutes before the dining hall ended its breakfast service.

Hayes decided that easiest solution would be to extend the dining hall’s breakfast hours to 9:30 a.m., as staff are already in the kitchen preparing lunch at that time.
