College changes foodservice vendor in favor of local sourcing

In an effort to promote better eating, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., is switching foodservice providers, opting for Bon Appetit over Aramark, its former vendor, reports tribstar.com.

In choosing its new provider, the college wanted to focus on healthier options and special dietary needs. Bon Appetit was chosen due in part to the percentage of food it serves from local farms, officials say.

“I think students will see an increase in food quality,” Erik Hayes, VP for student affairs at RHIT, told the website, adding that it was a “top priority” in student surveys.
