Child Nutrition Reauthorization markup set for Jan. 20

The Senate Agricultural Committee has scheduled a markup to reauthorize child nutrition programs for next Wednesday, Jan. 20.

A source familiar with the draft legislation told agri-pulse.com that the bill will have “a strong emphasis on continuing the advancements” in nutrition made under the act, which expired in September, would remove some barriers to child participation, as well as provide flexibility to nutrition professionals who operate school and summer feeding programs.

Though the source didn’t discuss any flexibility provisions, the markup is expected to provide extra funding for summer feeding, but none for increasing school reimbursements, which has been lobbied for by the School Nutrition Association, according to the website.
