Child nutrition bill passes House

DEC. 2—After months of waiting, the U.S. House of Representatives passed The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, according to the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC). The bill now heads to President Obama for his signature, which he is expected to do quickly.

The bill has been criticized by House representatives, among others, for cutting SNAP funding to pay for proposed child nutrition changes. According to a FRAC release, “The passage of the bill was accompanied by a strengthened commitment by President Obama, made during meeting with House Democrats prior to the vote, to fix the SNAP cut contained in the bill.”
