Chicago hospitals phasing out sugary beverages

Hopes to serve only unsweetened or reduced sugar beverages.

April 25—For Vanguard Health Chicago, which operates four hospitals in Cook County, sugary beverages such as sodas, sports and energy drinks will soon be a thing of the past.

Over the course of this year, the hospital group hopes to eventually phase out diet drinks and sweetened juices until it offers only unsweetened drinks or those that contain less than about a teaspoon of sugar per 12-ounce serving.
