Oct. 2—Chartwells School Dining is meeting the new school meal requirements for grains by introducing a new pizza concept, Pizza Pizzam!
The concept features whole-wheat pizza crust made with all-natural ingredients such as olive oil, flaxseed and whole grain. The pizza's whole grain count also meets the USDA's two-bread serving requirement, enabling schools to serve Pizza Pizzam! every day of the week.
"Healthy foods do not have to be plain and tasteless," Kim Salahie, director of culinary development for Chartwells School Dining Services, said in a press release.
"We strive to create mealtime options that our students love while also making sure these recipes incorporate fresh and nutritious ingredients in an easy-to-serve format."
Pizza Pizzam! will be served in Chartwells cafeterias across the U.S.. The pizza will be offered with a variety of toppings, including locally grown, fresh produce.
