Bon Appetit Management Co. is banning straws and plastic stirrers at its 1,000 cafes and restaurants as part of a commitment to sustainability.
The foodservice provider has started phasing out the straws and is expected to have completely eliminated them at all of its operations by September 2019.
Paper straws will be offered to guests who have physical challenges or who request a straw.
Other institutions around the country such as Dartmouth College have also taken steps to eliminate straws from their operations. Earlier this spring, the Chicago White Sox and the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago both eliminated plastic straws in their foodservice operations.
