BHSU first university, third restaurant in state to earn green certification

Black Hills State University's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and become a "green" campus has earned them the certification.

SPEARFISH, S.D.— Black Hills State University’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and become a “green” campus is being recognized nationally. The university’s dining services was recently notified that The Hive, the campus dining facility, and The Buzz Shack, a coffee and snack shop, have both been designated as 2 Star Certified Green Restaurants by the Green Restaurant Association (GRA).

BHSU is the first university and only the third restaurant in the state to achieve this designation, according to Bob Dooley, director of dining services. Carver Café at Xanterra Parks & Resorts at Mt. Rushmore and the Cedar Pass Lodge Restaurant in Interior are the other two Certified Green Restaurants in South Dakota.
